Our team is happy to guide you through the CVA process from start to finish.
The bulk of questions comes from the general NACVA membership. Periodically, NACVA contracts experienced valuers to generate questions. Questions are also sourced from 'The Value Examiner'. Once received, three contracted exam Q&A consultants and 20+ subject matter experts review them thoroughly before the Valuation Credentialing Board (VCB) approves them for the exam database.
The Valuation Credentialing Board (VCB) makes that decision with psychometric input on question validity. The VCB periodically reviews and updates the exam question pool to reflect current valuation knowledge and practice.
The examination tests the candidate's knowledge of the general field of valuation and the Body of Knowledge. Instructors can't address every nuance in class. This is why NACVA's texts provide recommended reading and appendices that every valuator should be familiar with.
The proctored exam tests theoretical knowledge. However, it takes both knowledge and its practical application to become a successful valuator. The experiential requirement — submitting a business valuation report within 60 days of the exam — ensures candidates can apply what they have learned.
Proctored exam results are shared within two weeks. Candidates then have 60 days to complete and submit the case study. Case study results are shared within two to four months. Upon clearing both, the CVA certificate is generated and shipped to the chapter as soon as possible.
